Aria Project: Book Me As A Solo Act
The Aria Project is all-acoustic. Instead of playing Galatea I play an acoustic or classical guitar that will be amplified with a microphone or electronically as the location and occasion require. I've performed this act in private houses, mid-sized halls, and outdoors. With the unamplified classical guitar, I control my singing volume to be at approximately the level of a human speaking voice even on high notes. With microphones, of course it's possible to play more loudly.
Each set lasts twenty to twenty-five minutes and contains two parts: a vocal part first, then an instrumental part. The vocal part consists of two to four arias or art songs in Italian, French, or German. The instrumental part is performed entirely on the guitar and may contain Renaissance, classical or Baroque music, or instrumental versions of popular music, love songs (especially for weddings), or show tunes. Between sets I rest five to ten minutes.
This act is designed as background music for a reception or dinner. The music is formal and refined enough for a wedding reception or corporate dinner, and in fact most of my bookings for this act are for wedding receptions. The singing is always done in a language besides the one being spoken, so it does not interfere with conversation. Everything focuses on creating a mood and background.
