Scheduling And Cancellation Policy

Emergencies happen, and people sometimes get sick. Since sometimes life gets in the way of guitar lessons, I try to balance your need for flexibility with my need for consistency. My goal is to do so in a way that is fair to all.

  1. We set up the schedule for each month at the end of the previous month. I bring my calendar, you bring yours, and we determine when the lessons are going to be for the next month. I calculate the fee and tax, which is due on the first lesson of the month.

  2. I never knowingly teach when I’m sick. If you’re sick with something contagious or think you’re coming down with something, please cancel your lesson rather than passing the bug on to me and to all my other students.

  3. I never schedule myself to teach when I know I’m playing a gig or out of town for a consultation. I can work around your vacation schedule too if we set it up at the start of the month. That way we both know where the other is going to be.

  4. If you give me 24 hours of advance notice or more when you have to cancel a lesson, I will give you a refund, a credit toward the next month’s lesson, or a make-up lesson (your choice).

  5. If you give me less than 24 hours notice, then unless the reason is very serious such as an accident, a death, or bad weather, I will treat it as a no-show.

  6. I cannot give refunds, credits, or make-up lessons for no-shows. A no-show is highly disrespectful and unprofessional.

  7. For repeated no-shows, I reserve the right to dismiss a student after the paid lessons run out.

  8. Lessons start on time. If you are late for a studio lesson, I'll still be here and will teach you as soon as you arrive, but when the next student arrives I must start teaching him or her promptly. I will wait for ten minutes for you if I'm teaching at your place, and then I will leave and consider it a no-show.

  9. Many of my students take weeks or months off to accommodate other things in their lives. If you need to stop lessons for more than a few weeks, or want to take a break from the guitar, I support that completely, and I'll be glad to teach you again when you feel like resuming lessons. However I can't guarantee the same lesson time slot will still be available. Early evening time slots (6:30 PM through 8 PM) are the highest demand, and they get snapped up quickly.
