Mobile Lesson Rules

A mobile lesson is the same as a studio lesson except it’s in your home instead of mine. Still there are some standards to ensure you have the best quality lesson possible.

  1. You need not have a special music room or studio. The lesson occurs in a public part of the house such as the living room or the kitchen.

  2. The lesson area must be well lit, with an appropriate chair or stool for the student and enough space for me to set up.

  3. The student's amplifier (for electric guitar) should be set up and waiting. Otherwise we have to use a portion of the lesson time to set up, which leaves less time for learning.

  4. I will teach in a room set up as a music studio, or else in a semi-public part of the house such as a living room, but not in a bedroom or similar out-of-the-way place.

  5. I will not teach in any room that's under construction or otherwise dangerous.

  6. If there's obvious drug or alcohol use or illegal activity going on, I can't afford to be around that scene so I'll leave immediately and there will be no refund. A second such incident is a crash and burn offense.

  7. Parents or guardians are always welcome to watch a lesson. Others can watch only with the student's permission. This is to keep the student from being distracted by friends or siblings. A student, particularly a child or a teenager, cannot be expected to babysit or prepare dinner while taking a lesson.

  8. Anyone watching the lessons should try not to interrupt or distract the student. This means that small children and pets need to be in another room.

  9. Electronic distractions are bad for concentration. Have as many nanny-cams as you want and feel free to record the lesson. But if there is a TV, X-box, computer, or other electronic gadget in the room it has to be turned off. The same goes for cell phones, radios, and anything else that might disrupt the lesson. I don't require complete silence, but I do need the student's attention.

  10. I cannot be responsible for any other child or person in the house besides the student. Teaching takes all my attention and there's none left over.

  11. Students must be prepared, with their instruments and their required equipment. I consider a lack of preparation, or lack of practice, to be equivalent to a no-show.

  12. As much as I enjoy teaching, I probably cannot stay long after the lesson because I have other customers who are expecting me. I will never turn down a drink of water but I probably can't stay for dinner.

  13. There needs to be a safe place for me to park within reasonable walking distance of where you are.

Parents please also see my Note To Parents, whis is on the same page as my Parent's Bill Of Rights.

There's such a thing as a crash and burn offense, for which I do not allow second chances. Please see this link for details.
